What it does, what it costs, where the data comes from.
Most entries come from OpenStreetMap, the open map that volunteers have been building since 2004. That is where the toilets at railway stations, in parks, at motorway services and in town centres come from. On top of that sit the places people have added in the app themselves, together with their ratings and photos.
The two sources are kept apart, so a mistake in one never overwrites the other. An entry that has been reported as gone is hidden rather than deleted – that way it can come back if the toilet reopens.
Map, search, directions, reviews and adding a toilet are free. The free version shows a small banner at the bottom of the map. Pro removes it and unlocks all filters – step-free access, price, Euro key, payment, opening hours, rating and type of place. It costs €5.99 a year and can be cancelled at any time in Google Play.
The moment you actually need a toilet is rarely the moment you have a good signal: on a train, in a basement, on holiday without roaming. The app therefore keeps every area you have already looked at on the phone, and shows it again without a connection. Only genuinely new areas need the network.
